Grand High Priest
2008-2009

On behalf of the 2150 Royal Arch Masons of Maryland, it is quite an honor and pleasure to welcome you to our official website.  The State of Maryland is a great place to visit and is steeped in the history of our nation.  One of the original thirteen colonies that fought the War for Independence, Maryland was the seventh state to ratify the Constitution. Known as "The Free State" for its early practice of religious  toleration and the "Old Line State" for the military prowess of its Continental Line, Maryland stretches from the Appalachian Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean and from the Mason-Dixon Line to Washington D.C. and provides a varied vista to its guests.

Baltimore, the principal city is the site of Francis Scott Key's immortal poem written after the bombardment of Fort McHenry in the early morning hours of September 14, 1814 that became the National Anthem after being set to the music of English Brother Stafford   Baltimore is known as the Monumental City and is the home of the first architectural monument to Brother George Washington. While viewing these sites, consider partaking of the City's famous culinary delight, the Chesapeake Blue Crab, particularly in its crab cake form.

Annapolis, the state capitol, is the home of the U. S. Naval Academy and the final resting place of Brother John Paul Jones, is an historic quaint and lovely city on the Severn River.

The fraternity in Maryland has its beginnings in the 1750s in Annapolis.  The Grand Royal Arch Chapter was formed in 1797,ten years after  Grand Lodge.  One hundred and fifty-one  men served as Grand High Priest and fourteen of them have also served as Grand Master.

When you visit, the weather is moderate, although extremes in the summer and winter can occur.

We hope that you will soon have the opportunity to visit us and experience our state first hand.  We look forward to greeting you and becoming your friends as we graciously welcome you to Maryland "the land of pleasant living".

                                Zealously and Fraternally,
                                Louis F. Bandell, Jr.
                                Most Excellent Grand High Priest
