FROM THE EAST
The past few weeks have been filled with challenges and gratifications. The open visit of the Grand Master, Most Worshipful Jeffery Eugene Hodges last June was one memorable night. It was a night filled with entertainment, fellowship to the delight of the Brethren and their ladies. Then again during the Stewart A. Deem School of Instruction, Owens Lodge and Ocean View Lodge did very well on the exemplification of the FC Degree. Owens Lodge was well represented and I thank you all for your continued support. Those times spent in "in-house" practices really paid off. We always aim to maintain the high standards of proficiency in our rituals.
The Masonic participation at the Portsmouth Memorial Day parade also had a good turn out. Thanks for the dedication of Bro. Roger Panelo, Tom Barnes, Wor. Cedo and Manny Elefane, who represented Owens Lodge and marched with the Grand Master at the parade.
The Golf Tournament turns out very well. The game was fun and the fellowship was great. I thank our Junior Deacon, Brother Alain Buensuceso, and Junior Warden, Roger Panelo, for coordinating the event. Also thanks to the brethren who are non-golfers but donated or contributed in anyway.
Our Saint John's Day Celebration was observed on June 28 when the brethren and their families and friends joined a Sunday service in St Mark Catholic Church. This was followed by a Fellowship Brunch in a Chinese buffet restaurant. The group showing with the display of Masonic pins or Masonic neckties is one way of increasing public awareness about freemasonry.
The Grand Master's survey on lodge attendance calls for a greater challenge ahead. On the average only 14% of masons attend lodges. Discovering Our Potentials demands that we do better than this. It is important that Masons must do something if Freemasonry is to exist for the next decade and beyond. Come to the lodges. Let us not forget our rituals. Know and share the lessons derived from them, but most of all practice the teachings. Remember the saying, " YOU CAN NOT TEACH WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW, AND YOU CAN'T KNOW IF YOU DON'T GO."

CALCOTT SCHOOL/MASONIC EDUCATION CLASSES
The Calcott School goes "dark" during the month of July and August. School resumes September 2, Wednesday following the Labor Day weekend. Masonic Education Classes on will be conducted by the DEO during the Calcott School break. These training classes for officers are mandated by the Grand Master by the Executive Order No. 1. These trainings must be completed before September and this is the only feasible time we can accomplish this without interfering with Calcott and other lodge activities. Take due notice thereof.
UNDER THE WEATHER
Remember in your prayers our brothers who are not able to attend the lodge due to health or physical conditions. RW Baxter Burgess, Wor. Ted B. Delacruz., Wor. Bervel T. Bateman Jr., Bro. Tom Barnes Jr., Bro James Gammon, RW Stewart A. Deem.
DUES
Remind a Brother and help avoid the extra charges by the expense of mailing unnecessary citations to delinquent members. Please check your dues card and make sure your membership is current. The Dues (plus assessment) is $103.00 for 2008, and $113.00 for 2009. If you wish to consider the Life Membership in Perpetuity Program, please feel free to contact me or the secretary. This is one way to avoid forgetting to update your yearly dues, and you will no longer be affected by any future dues increases. We have at least 34 members who are on the LMIP program. We do not anticipate any Dues increase in the immediate future. So far our current dues are holding up with the help of couple fund raisers, in running the financial business of the lodge.
DEGREE FEES
Commencing the year 2010, the fee for the degrees is $300.00 and is paid as follows: $75.00 accompanying the Petition, $75.00 for Entered Apprentice, $75.00 for Fellowcraft, and $75.00 for the degree of Master Mason.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Wor. Florante "Butch" Bautista is certified on the Senior Deacons Lecture. A JOB WELL DONE Worshipful Sir, I am proud of you.
