DON'T BE AFRAID OF "THE COMPUTER"
First - Think about what you are going to use it for!! BEFORE BUYING IT!!
Second - Define "those requirements" to sales personnel - THEY REALLY ARE HELPFULL
Third - Select the "latest items" within cost constraints - The latest item is already on the way!!!
Fourth - Each system comes with a "brief set up 1,2,3 of instructions"
Fifth - All systems are "plug and play" - YES REALLY!!!! Most even have color code
BR>
connections or certainly only the "right one will work"
The "tower" or computer normally only needs 8 wires "plugged in"
Power, printer, key board, mouse, monitor, printer, speakers, modem,
Sixth - after your plugged in "push the on/off button to the "on position" for Tower,
Monitor, Printer, and Speakers
"Magically" - EVERYTHING WILL COME ON and "LOAD ITSELF"
You will have to input your Windows 95/98 certificate number but that should be it!!!!
unless you have bought some "programs" that were not loaded at the manufacturing point.
Also you will have to go through a registration process to go "on-line"
Select provider based on speed of access and local connect capabilities.
Check that out ahead of time - Your computer will probably come loaded with at least AOL.
NOW YOU ARE READY TO PLAY/SURF???
THINK OF THE COMPUTER AS A TYPING/FILING SYSTEM
THEY ARE GENERALLY "ERROR PROOF" and "forgiving".
All you need to be able to do is "point the arrow using the mouse", aim it and "left click"
OR type in info(URL Addresses in blank search space) and "hit enter" on your key board!!
If problems develop like getting "hung up"(nothing happening), >control, alt, delete< >end task<
will take you off the Internet to where you should be able to reload and go back on OK!!
REMEMBER TO SAVE YOUR WORK in WORD PROCESSORS >FILE - SAVE AS<
There are other safe guards like "recycle bin" , continuing questions about "delete" before you
really do it. Also on complete computer shut down, it generally save last previously save file.
"SURFING" or INTERNET "HELP"
1. ALL URL Addresses are sensitive to exact information:
E-mail EXAMPLE >>>kych52va@aol.com<<
URL EXAMPLE >http://members.aol.com/YorkRiteFM/HomePage.html<
EACH LETTER MUST BE TYPED EXACTLY AS INDICATED
2. BE PATIENT - see loading problems
3. INSTANT MESSAGES - with AOL it allows "one to establish a buddy list"
(IE - click on members - then buddy list - follow instructions)
so that one can see when a buddy is on line (screen name shows up) and you can
send an "instant message" to him - "IT DINGS"
4. Select passwords using combination of numbers & letters, suggest staying away from"NAME"
5. NEVER CLICK ON "Hyper link" (blue underlined area) in an e-mail from a stranger!
6. If you are on a "net"-Be careful how you respond-"DO YOU WANT ANSWER ON NET"??
KEEP JOKES AND CHAIN LETTERS OFF THE NET - DO NOT PROMOTE RUMORS - VERIFY INFO
7. The KEY TO THE INTERNET IS QUICK RESPONSE - Especially to e-mails
8. EVERYONE IS ON A LEARNING CURVE & WE STILL ARE BROTHERS!!!
FOR AOL MEMBERS - SEEING REVISIONS to SITEAOL 9.0 indicates "TOP Speed TM - AOL Web Browser Accelerator".
They accomplish that by storing the web sites you view on your computer. They say, "This will display pages in the AOL browser quicker". This is the "normal set up" when you load AOL 9.0. It certainly does this; however, since it does this, it is very difficult for you to see immediately the changes I make on your web site.
BASICALLY, YOUR BROWSER LOOKS IN YOUR COMPUTER FIRST RATHER THAN AT THE SITE AS REVISED ON THE INTERNET.
This may possible be changed by using another browser like Netscape or MSIE.
In order to change "this set up":
1. Left Click on "SETTINGS" on your AOL TOOL Bar.
2. Then select/left click on "Internet [Web] Options"
3. That brings you to "AOL Browser Settings".
4. You should see a "dot" aside of Optimize Web browsing, etc.
5. Eliminate the "dot" by left clicking on it
6. THEN CLICK ON "SAVE" - and you are done
This may reduce the speed of loading a "favorite" but hopefully you will see the revision quicker.
7. You might even have to shut your computer completly off.
When ever I make a revision to a web site,
I CHECK to see if it "took" by using another browser (not AOL) first
before I email you that I have "posted your chages".
